EPITAPH

Were you searching for a saviour or an angel?
Or a pair of arms to hold you in the night?
Was it love’s body that called to you?
Like a dark moth burning for the light?

Was that bright desert road too full of questions?
And all your prayers too full of night?
Did you long to fly higher than mountains?
Were you drunk on love and longing for the light?

Did you fly too high on fragile wings?
Did you scorch your soul and blind your sight?
Was the earth beneath your feet too heavy
For such a lover of the light?

When you flew out into space
Did you feel the world turning?
Did you gasp that spirit wind
And taste its burning?

And when you fell to earth
Were you still flying?
Did you catch the wind
At the edge of dying?

And when you fell to earth
Were you still flying?
Did you catch the wind
At the edge of dying?
